very good transfer of one of the best Czech films ever made. While the viewer is transfixed by the presence of the lovely Jaroslava one is left to feel captive to an onslaught of vampirism, voyeurism, sadomasochism, lesbianism and depravity.

Valerie and Her Week of Wonders presents a world in which all is allegory, ones relatives may be vampires, and all authority figures are suspect; in the opening minutes of the film, a priest enters Valerie's dazzlingly white bedroom and almost immediately tries to rape her. It's best not to try to make too much sense of what is happening, but just immerse yourself in each of the scenes.
