Wanting to get away from New York and reinvent himself he goes out to Cape Hellview, Oregon and meets the oddball residents including Ralph an old man who tells people “You’re doomed!” while riding by on his bicycle. When a pulp-fiction author (William Hudson) buys a lighthouse in the hopes of having an ideal place to be creative, his plans are dashed by the vengeful ghost of a woman scorned. My favorite line is still a well-worn "Your Doooooomed!" Some creative editing, while pleasing to the eye, will make natives of Depoe Bay and Newport, Oregon (where most of it was filmed) do a double take and say "what the....?" It consists of many funny scenes, including a library/chase sequence, and a battle between humans and former psychiatric patients turned zombies at the top of a lighthouse.

In the tradition of "Scary Movie," "Hysterical" parodies horror films such as "Dracula," "The Amityville Horror" and "The Exorcist," as well as classics like "Jaws" and "Raiders of the Lost Ark." A cult movie if there ever was one. The Hudson brothers are charismatic and often funny, but the overall ineptness of the production seems to smother them. Parodies of Dracula, Jaws, The Exorcist, Friday the 13th, Night Of The Living Dead, and countless others abound, culminating in a dancing zombie musical number. "What difference does it make?" Good movie for Halloween to get a break from blood and guts - lots of zombies, little blood.

I love this movie, and consider it the very definition of a cult classic. It looks and feels like a real movie; this is not Edward D. Wood stuff.

I would really love to see this one again. It's one of those movies I discovered long ago on cable, thinking I was the only one who ever saw it. The image is an example of a ticket confirmation email that AMC sent you when you purchased your ticket. Hysterical is well, pretty hysterical, the film is about novelist Frederic Lansing who writes a trashy but successful book called Mouth to Mouth. Not to say this movie does not take a few scenes out of other films, but so did "Airplane" and "Top Secret".

I just saw this movie on cable (not, I assure you, by design). - D.L. I went to high school with Mark, Brett and Bill Hudson and love this movie! Remember the Hudson Brothers? There are endless quotes from the movie: "The library is closed. It was extremely fulfilling for me at 12, and now that I'm still emotionally 12 it's still pretty good.

Over the years I've met many others who have the same "Oh yeah, I remember that movie!

The nutty, zanny combined talents of The Hudson Brothers will make you laugh over and over again!! Boys, it just isn't funny anymore.
