A Highways England spokesperson said: "The M61 in Greater Manchester is currently closed southbound between J6 and J5 near Bolton due to a serious collision involving multiple vehicles including a HGV carrying horses. Reason: Vehicle tyre change. "All emergency services including the North West Motorway Police Group are in attendance. Time to clear: The event is expected to clear between 12:45 and 13:00 on 11 Aug 2020. Sana Patel, from Blackburn, was a passenger in the Nissan and died at the scene. The motorway was closed southbound between junctions 8 (Bolton North) and 6 (Horwich) due to an incident, close to Rivington Services, at around 1pm.
A man and woman have been arrested after a 12-year-old girl died in a hit-and-run on a motorway. The road has been closed between junction 8 near Chorley to junction 6, A6027 De Havilland Way, Horwich.
