It’s a beautiful, but long, walk. The beautiful view will leave you with a strong sense of accomplishment since it’s a far walk, and you can’t walk any further. I still vividly remember finding 2 Junonia Volutes, numerous Paper Fig shells ( delicate, with no chips or cracks or animal remains still inside any of the shells and too many more different species of shells too numerous to mention and still in excellent condition.
One of the few untouched islands along the Gulf Coast, Caladesi Island State Park is accessible only by boat, but is worth the extra effort. Agreed that we did not see a ton ofI don’t understand why people insist on going to Clearwater Beach. Caladesi Island is YOUR beach of choice!

Although it is lovely that’s OK they can all go there because Caladesi Island State Park is much more beautiful. The Caladesi Island Ferry actually connects Caladesi Island to Honeymoon Island. The beach is very soft sand that is difficult to ride on. Looking for a place to get away from it all?

With over 60 strict requirements in categories such as sand color and softness, water color and temperature, public areas, and recreation, Caladesi Island State Park emerged the clear winner.

Prized fish populate the blue waters of Gasparilla Island, making it a sportsman’s paradise. Caladesi Island is one of the Gulf Coast’s last uninhabited islands in the Tampa Bay area. Although this park is primarily a wildlife refuge, it can be a personal refuge - a place to relax and collect shells along secluded, pristine beaches.
