Riding Giants is a documentary made at the right time for preserving the history of big wave surfing. It has some of the most incredible shots that I have ever seen, but what really makes it is the way it comes across as so personal, with some really interesting, moving interviews with some of the worlds greatest surfers such as Greg Noll, Jeff Clark and Laird Hamilton, and their relationships … There's Jeff Clark, Northern California's lone frontiersman, who, after discovering the massive waves of Maverick's near San Francisco, rode there alone for over a decade. This is a broad examination and if it misses occasional anecdotes it is because it focuses on the real pioneers at each step.
I say partially because I came in half way through whilst channel surfing and still thoroughly enjoyed what I saw, which I think in anyones book is a good indicator of a quality film.
