Tried the 1883 lounge tonight downstairs in the newly renovated Glen Cove Hotel. Clean but is missing a lot of comforts expected.

Although the hotel was less than 50% booked, this space tends to draw hotel guests and locals alike. There's just simply a lot missing here. Staff and ordering was great. Bedding was not inviting. We will be back, but always in the basement! My husband and I went for the 1st time for dinner. Scallops were ok but wrapped in bacon(that's an app not an entrée) only 3 steak tips and 2 scallops with lots of mashed potatoes(not hot) and spinach. Weird and insulting. I had a cabernet for wine which also was not very good. Doesn't quite make a 3-star rating. Own or manage this property? Continental breakfast is lackluster - nothing appetizing or pretty. The management told us we didn't have the "make room up" side of the privacy door hanger on the knob. Hot water took quite a while to reach the spout. . Clean but is missing a lot of comforts expected. However, the bathtub/shower combo needs some sort of bath mat or anti-skid matting as it's super slippery - very dangerous. Newly remodeled and looked great. No mini fridge.
Downstairs 1883 restaurant was very good and resembles a classy speakeasy. Someone is going to fall - no doubt about it. But it was take out, so I would think 5-10 minutes travel time might have affected it slightly, I ordered a burger and paid extra for cheese (although they forgot it so no cheese added but was still charged for it), steak tips that were pretty tough and overcooked on the outside and raw in the middle, and fries that were soggy. The "mattress" was VERY hard - I compared it to a blow-up mattress that was filled past capacity. It's nicely appointed, entertainment was well chosen. We stayed here with friends in the off season as part of a "trip down memory lane" for my husband - who spent many a childhood summer in Onset.
