The second is my favorite symphony EVER and I have maybe thirty or thirty-five versions here. I only bought it because I love what Petrenko is doing at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic.Rachmaninov - warm clear sound, with something extra! I found some of it in this recording, but he clearly can do more.

the musicians loved Petrenko as much as the critics, because he made them sound like heroes. Amazon calculates a product’s star ratings based on a machine learned model instead of a raw data average.
All the soloists are superb - the clarinettist in particular, so important at several places, is wonderful. No one spoke of promise after a concert or two; they were already floored. But there are SO many performances that best this in every way - sound, interpretation, magic, and beauty. Rachmaninov: Piano Concertos Nos. This recording is quite special: it seems that the exposition repeat in the first movement of Symphony 2 is usually ignored.
Rachmaninov: Symphony No. EMI 9154732; EMI ITALIANA - Italia; Classica Orchestrale I've written down all your names.
this is the first rach 2 which stands comparison with my beloved ashkenazy/ concertgebouw recording.
Most recently the Paray but I find the sound on that Mercury recording, despite what the pundits will tell you, harsh and dry - clear, yes, but a little air around the orchestra would do wonders for it. Recommended recording in BBC music mag, and you can see why.
Of versions that run this length, the Rozhdestvensky is so much better in terms of performance, although that, too, has muddy sound. But I'm going through them all as most of them at least have something to offer.
Petrenko repeats this section, and it works extremely well.

Rachmaninov: Symphonies Nos.1-3 Please try againSorry, we failed to record your vote. Fool me once, but never twice.
Mussorgsky: Pictures At An Exhibition/... But I just don't get all these raves which, by the way, are what made me purchase this.
2 (LSO/Gergiev)
The recording is superb - warm and clear, which allows the wonderful orchestral textures to emerge in all their glorious colour, and the playing is beautiful.
